Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how KalaDarshini ("the App", "we", "us", or "our"), developed by Manohar NV ("Developer"), collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application available on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location Data

The App requests access to your device's approximate or precise location only while the App is in use. Location is used solely to calculate accurate local panchanga timings (sunrise, Rahu Kalam, Gulika Kalam, and other time-based Hindu calendar data). Location data is processed entirely on-device and is never transmitted to our servers or shared with any third party. You may deny location permission at any time; the App will use a default location or a location you manually enter.

1.2 Purchase and Subscription Data

The App offers optional paid subscriptions ("Jyotishi Pro" and "Acharya") through the App Store and Google Play. Purchases are processed by Apple and Google respectively. We use RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) to manage subscription entitlements. RevenueCat may collect a pseudonymous device identifier and subscription status to verify your entitlements. No credit card or payment details are ever accessible to us. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

1.3 Account Identity (Anonymous by Default; Sign-In Optional)

When you first open the App, we create an anonymous account via Firebase Authentication. This account exists only to securely associate your favorites, settings, and usage counters with your device. No personal information (no email, no name) is collected for the anonymous account.

You may optionally upgrade your anonymous account by signing in with Google or Sign in with Apple (iOS only). When you do:

Your name and email address (or Apple's relay address if you choose "Hide My Email") are stored in your account record so your data syncs across devices.
Signing in with Google additionally grants the App access to:
- Google Drive (app-specific folder only) — to back up your AI chat history. We use the drive.appdata scope, meaning the App can only access an isolated folder it creates; it cannot see, list, or modify any of your other Drive files.
- Google Calendar (app-created calendar only) — to add Hindu calendar reminders to a calendar the App creates. We use the calendar.app.created scope, meaning the App can only manage events in the calendar it creates.
Sign in with Apple does not request any additional Apple data beyond name and email (which you may hide via Apple's relay).

You can revoke Google access at any time via your Google Account permissions page, or revoke Sign in with Apple via iOS Settings → Apple ID → Sign in with Apple.

1.4 Cloud Storage (Firebase Firestore)

The following data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase Firestore) under your account identifier:

Weekly usage counters (number of AI messages, kundali exports, etc.) — used to enforce the free-tier limits.
If you have signed in: your email, display name, and the list of authentication providers linked to your account.
Shared kundali / matching snapshots that you explicitly create via the share feature.
AI chat history — stored either in your own Google Drive (if you have connected Drive) or in Firestore as a fallback.

1.5 Push Notifications

If you enable reminders, the App may send local or push notifications. A device token may be generated for this purpose but is not linked to any personal identifier and is not shared with third parties.

1.6 AI Chat (Astrologer Feature)

The App includes an optional AI-powered astrology chat powered by Anthropic's Claude API. Text you enter in the chat is sent to Anthropic's servers to generate responses. Please do not share sensitive personal information in the chat. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.

1.7 Crash and Diagnostics

We may collect anonymous crash reports and diagnostic information (e.g., via Expo / React Native built-in crash reporting) to improve App stability. This data does not include personally identifiable information.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide and personalise the App's core panchanga functionality.
To verify subscription entitlements and unlock premium features.
To create Google Calendar events when you authorise calendar sync.
To send reminders and notifications you have opted into.
To improve App performance and fix bugs.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers, and only to the extent necessary to operate the App:

Google Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Crashlytics, Remote Config) – account identity, cloud storage of usage counters and account profile, server-side processing for account deletion, and crash diagnostics.
RevenueCat – subscription management.
Anthropic – AI chat responses (when you use the Astrologer feature).
Google – Sign-In, Google Drive (app-data only), Google Calendar (app-created calendar only), when you opt in.
Apple – Sign in with Apple, when you opt in (iOS only).
Apple / Google Play – payment processing.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your data only as long as you maintain an account. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, in two ways:

From inside the App: open Settings → Danger zone → Delete account. A confirmation dialog explains what will be deleted; on confirmation, your account is permanently removed.
Without the App: visit kaladarshini.co.in/delete-account.html and submit your account email. We will email you a one-time confirmation link; clicking it permanently deletes your account.

Account deletion removes:

Your Firebase Authentication user record (email, name, sign-in providers).
All Firestore documents under your account (usage counters, profile, AI conversations stored in Firestore, kundali / matching share snapshots you created).
Your subscription record at RevenueCat.

Account deletion does not automatically:

Cancel active App Store or Google Play subscriptions — these must be cancelled by you in the respective stores. Apple and Google do not permit third parties to cancel subscriptions on your behalf.
Remove data stored in your own Google Drive or Google Calendar — these belong to you and are not under our control. To remove the App's Drive folder, revoke access at your Google Account permissions; Drive will then garbage-collect the app-data folder. To remove the calendar created by the App, delete it from Google Calendar.

5. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for users aged 18 and older and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

6. Security

All data transmitted by the App uses HTTPS/TLS encryption. Location data is processed on-device only and never transmitted. We follow industry-standard practices to protect data in transit.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
